I’ve noticed recently, how many brilliant women are allowing a saboteur narrator to tell their money story.
“ I have a brilliant podcast with thousands of followers, and I just struggle to know how to monetise it, so I don’t”
“this amazing client wants to work with me, they are my dream client, but they can’t afford to pay me my new day rate, I’ll have to reduce it, to get them to sign up”
…. Are but two of the things I’ve heard recently.
Are you stuck with your relationship with Money?
Do you love the work you do, and almost as a result of that feel that you can’t ask people to pay you for the value of it?
I work with many brilliant creators, makers, creative business owners, and change makers. I hear a money collapse happen for a lot of these people. “I am Creative and therefore I can’t make much money from my work”
Oh well, we might as well just pack up and go home then?!
Of course that’s easy for me to say, I can see their brilliance, and also what’s holding them back from growing sustainable businesses or change.
The Saboteur….It’s hard to dance with a devil on your back…..
We all have an inner critic, or an entire “shitty committee”. That small but powerful voice that tells us “you don’t know what you’re doing” “they’re onto you” “it will fail, don’t even bother trying”
Sound familiar? I often hear this referred to as imposter syndrome.
In my work as a Coach I look more deeply at this with clients. We connect with what their saboteur(s) sound like, look like, move like and we name them.
The visualisation and characterisation of your saboteur is hugely liberating. Once you’ve met them, you start to notice them, can get curious about what information they are giving you.
The saboteur trades in the two main currencies in life; time and money.
“I don’t have time to do what I really want”
“I can’t afford it”
Because of course, the saboteur is designed to keep us safe, to highlight risks, and if you let them, take over and keep you “small”. At its worst, the saboteur has the power to paralyse you from taking steps towards what you’re longing for.
If you let it, that’s the thing to emphasise here, because you get to choose.
You get to choose if the saboteur’s going to keep you from taking bold action, towards a fulfilled life.
Change your Perspective
When a client is stuck, I work with them to create movement. Movement in how they see things, in what perspective you choose to take and in what resonant choices you choose to make. What will you say yes to and what will you say no to?
Because, you need to say no to things that no longer serve you, in order to create space for new ways of being and doing that will take you further than you ever imagined.
Create a Metaphor for Money
In much of the work I do with clients they are creating visual references, embodying the energy and emotion associated with the changes they want to make.
So simple and so powerful.
At the beginning of the year I was feeling battered by a barrage of bills and, whilst knowing I was clearing the way for less choppy waters, I felt like I was clinging onto a small rock being beaten by giant waves, clinging on until the next one hit me!
That was the story I was telling myself.
In a session I had with my Coach I took some different perspectives on this story.
I realised I am actually pretty canny with money. I had been brave enough to open the lid up and have a look at what wasn’t working with money. I’d found some people who could give me better advice, sure they cost more, and they saved me a lot more…. A wiser investment.
What I was actually doing was rebuilding the house from the foundations, not clinging onto a rock waiting for a wave to crash!
Here’s some questions for you
What metaphor would you create for the relationship you want to have with money?
Are there compartments inside it?
What colour is it?
What texture is it?
Is there a key for it? Who holds the key?
